At the turn of the century, the naval "meta" so to speak, was to build the biggest, toughest ships you could. They had more range, more firepower and were harder to sink. Unless I'm missing something, three Advanced Afterburners (+20% each) should be enough to outrun cruiser even if both use DMT: Battleship: 100 speed, +125% DMT, +60% x3 AA = 285 speed. The main thing that was nerfed is single-type fleets, so now you need to have mixed fleets all the time. The standard and generally most powerful battleship build, which does well in every single scenario in a single player game of stellaris, is giga cannon + 4 proton launchers. Put + tracking pieces in the auxiliary slots.All you need to do is open the Outliner, click on your shipyard, and then click on the third possible tab. This lets you begin building ships right away. By default, the game will generate the best possible version of the ship.
