This K frame revolver was Smith & Wesson's bread and butter gun and was produced in the millions. the number you are seeing on the inside of the frame is an assembly number used during manufacture to keep the frame and cylinder crane pieces mated. There is a 5-digit serial # in the crane area, and one-digit number before the J on the butt, and the butt serial is a 4-digit number. It has a diamond grip pattern and a pinned barrel.
